Hello again crafty friends! Have you seen Maggie’s latest collection called Heritage? It’s so beautiful and elegant, as always! To be very honest, the first thing I look for in Maggie’s new collections are papers that can be fussy cut! It’s truly one of my most used scrapbooking techniques! Maggie’s floral pattern papers are some of the best papers for fussy cutting! Therefore I always love to find the flower papers first!

Fussy Cutting Technique:

• First, let’s review what is fussy cutting? It’s a popular quilting technique and a popular scrapbooking technique as well. Fussy cutting is also a great technique for card makers. In simple terms, fussy cutting is when you use scissors to cut out an image, design or art from a pattern paper or fabric.
• Fussy cutting is an easy scrapbook technique for beginners and the advanced. You don’t need an expensive tool, just the right pair of scissors for fussy cutting. You need detail precision scissors like these detail mini snips scissors or these fine precision scissors.
• Look for any papers with a design or some art (like flowers) that you want to cut out. Next use your fussy cutting scissors (and some patience) and take your time cutting out each of the pieces.

Why is Fussy Cutting a Great Easy Scrapbook Technique?

• Now that you have all your flowers (or other art elements) cut out, what will you do with them? In other words, why would you want to use fussy cutting for scrapbooking in the first place? The answer is simple – it allows you to use your creativity and arrange all of the elements onto your layout in any design you want.
• Another benefit of fussy cutting is that you can add dimension to your scrapbook page by layering the pieces. Use a 3 dimensional adhesive like these 3d foam squares behind some of the pieces and they will appear to pop off the page.

Cute Scrapbook Page Idea Using Fussy Cutting:

• This is actually a fairly easy scrapbook page to create! First, choose 1 paper for the background, 1 paper for the smaller background and 1 paper to fussy cut.
• I went with this peach, pink, rust and yellow floral paper for my fussy cutting. Aren’t these flowers beautiful?
• The paper I chose for the smaller background is this blue striped pattern, but wanted to soften it a bit. To tone it down, I spread some of this white gesso, which gives it a more subtle look.
• Next, you will arrange the fussy cutting, photos and other elements on your scrapbook page.

• Remember to use 3d foam dots to create height and dimension underneath your fussy cutting pieces. That way they won’t look flat.
• Finally, to add more texture to the layout, I added some crepe paper ruffles around the edges. It is a simple scrapbook tip, but gives a very detailed and delicate look to the page.
