DIY paper fringe

Whenever I receive a design team box with the new Maggie Holmes scrapbooking products, I love looking at all the new things! This particular paper called PEACHY really caught my attention because I really love the bright & lively illustration. And of course, it was my personal challenge to feature the paper solely! I also love the fact that these cute photos of my daughter matched the paper well too! To begin, I used the Sunny Days mint color acrylic paint and spread it onto white cardstock. I added splatters of gold mist to tie in with the warm colors of the peaches paper. While waiting for the paint to dry, I cut out strips of my pattern paper diagonally to fill the top and bottom of the layout. Then with the help of my precision scissors, I cut the fringe on each strip.  I had to admit all that cutting was pretty therapeutic. Haha. Once that is all done, I adhered the fringe papers down.

How to make fringe paper quickly and easily:

Jessy suggests using a good pair of precision scissors to make paper fringe, which definitely makes it easier than using a bigger, bulkier pair of scissors. Some of the best small detail scissors are these Easy Action Shears and these Fiskars Fine Scissors. Both of these scissors are on sale!

Another easy way to make fringe paper much faster is to pick up a pair of these fringe scissors, also called shredding scissors. (They are also called herb scissors – meant for chopping herbs quickly and easily. These heavy duty herb scissors have great reviews! I bet they work the same, but I haven’t actually tried the herb scissors on paper, so you might want to stick with a pair of scissors specifically made for shredding paper.)

This is one of those inexpensive crafting tools you won’t regret buying and will last you for years. (I’ve had mine forever!) Since I hate to go searching the stores for something like this, I add it to my Amazon cart and let it sit there until I need a few other things so I can get it with prime delivery.Next, I positioned the photos somewhat in the middle and added layers all around. I carefully chose the colors so everything would look cohesive and blended well.

I just love this little lady embellishment (in Sunny Days ephemera pack) paired with the pretty floral sticker, and also added some hearts to fill the space. That cute green striped tag is a perfect addition. The color just popped!Just by adding some textures to your scrapbook page, it sure gives your whole layout a very refreshing look! And also by adding some stitching on each strip of fringe paper, it added even more texture!

Here’s a DIY party decor tip for you: These same tips for making the small strips of paper fringe apply to making a paper fringe garland! You can make a tissue paper fringe garland simply by using bigger pieces of tissue paper and use the shredding scissors to cut it or use a bigger pair of scissors to cut fringe pieces that are bigger and more spaced apart.

I made a tissue paper garland for this cute pink birthday party decor and I also made one for this blue birthday party decor. (For those I used regular scissors, not the shredding scissors because the cuts would be too close together.)
