Simple Easy System for Scrapbooking

Hello again! It’s Jessy here on the Maggie Holmes Blog with a new scrapbook page idea for you! I also want to share my system for making scrapbooking easy and fun! I have always used a system when I create a scrapbook layout. Here’s what that looks like:

Simple Easy System for Scrapbooking:

• The first thing I do is to choose a photo or two.
• Second I will take a good look at the photo and try to get some inspiration from it. Often times, the colors and the theme or event of the photo will lead my creative process.
• Third I will choose products that fit my color scheme and theme or feel that I want to create on my scrapbook page.
• Next I will sometimes use a scrapbook sketch or design layout that I have previously used and liked. Other times I won’t use a sketch but instead I will start creating and go with the flow.

If you apply these simple steps each time, you will take the guesswork out of scrapbooking. Additionally it will make scrapbooking easy and fun.!

Family Theme Scrapbook Page Idea:

For this page I used my tried and true system for making scrapbooking easy and fun that I listed above. I will walk you through the creative process below.

• This family scrapbook layout is largely inspired by the colors in the photos. I really love plants and I’m so glad that I managed to get a family photo during our vacation in Bali. Also bearing in mind the colors in the photos, I decided to create a more clean layout that doesn’t compete too much with the images.
• First I chose to place the photos in the middle of the page so they could be the focal point.
• Second I wanted to build some decorative layers all around the photos with ephemera die cuts & stickers. Placing the embellishments and die cuts all around the photos again draws your eye right to the photos.
• Finally I completed the layout with some strips of washi tape at the top of the layout to balance the overall look of the page.

Additional Thoughts about my Simple Easy System for Scrapbooking:

• I always try to pick papers and products that match the feel of my photographs. For example here I went with the vintage feeling paper to give that homey heritage feel to my scrapbook page.
• Have fun with the creative process. Once you get your photos and a few papers and products chosen, now is the time to have fun! Be creative and let things flow! I love to layer products around my photos because layering gives a lot of depth to my designs. I also love that having the photos right in the center keeps them as the main focal point.
