Hi there, it’s Ulli here today on the Maggie Holmes blog sharing a new travel mini scrapbook album! I’m also using the new Maggie Holmes Heritage collection to make this fun mini album! We take LOTS of photos on vacation so I’m still working on scrapbooking all of them from the summer! Therefore making a mini scrapbook album is a GREAT way to document a lot of your travel photos because you can fit a lot of pictures in it! So I decided to make a travel mini album about some of the days we spent on a little island at Lombok Indonesia. Supplies are all listed and linked at the end of this post!
How to Make This Cute Family Travel Mini Scrapbook Album:
This mini scrapbook album is 4.25″ x 4.25″ and I used bookbinding linen to hold the book together. Here are all the steps so you can make your own travel mini scrapbook!
- First, I cut two chipboard pieces. One is 4.25″ x 4.25″ and the other is 4.25″ x 1″ for the spine.
- Next I covered the chipboard cover with the Keepsake patterned paper. I used the the Handwritten pattern paper for the inside cover.
- To create the inside pages I cut two paper strips from the Library paper and one from the Childhood paper. I trimmed them each to 8.25″. Then I folded them at 4″ and at 4.25″ using a bone folding tool.
- Next I glued them onto the 4″ x 1″ paper strip.
- Finally I glued it into the cover and now it’s ready to fill up with photos and travel memories!!
- Additionally I wanted an album closure so I punched a hole in the front and back cover and set some pink eyelets. I used blue suede ribbon to close the album. Also I added a tassel, charm, some pom pom trim and the Maggie Holmes Flourish Decorative Trim with the leaves.
Walk Through of My Travel Mini Scrapbook Album:
I am going to walk you through the inside pages of my mini scrapbook so you can see how it all comes together. This will give you lots of great scrapbook ideas for creating your own family travel mini album!!
- Firstly for page 1, I punched a circle out and glued my photo behind it.
- Next I decorated the inside of the cover with two bows that I made with the great Heritage die and stamp set. On the top I added a yellow button from the Chasing Dreams collection.
- Finally I decorated the bottom of the page 1 using the cute Washi Tape with bows.
- Page 2 holds a visiting card, a receipt, a photo and a tag with my journaling. I placed all of this in the cute little paper pocket from the Heritage Stationary Pack. Saving bits of ephemera from your travels is a great way to document the vacation. It’s also so fun to include it in your travel journals or mini scrapbooks!
- Next I decided to use some embellishments from the Sunny Days collection and the Chasing Dreams collection to get a tropical look.
- Additionally, for this mini book I printed all my journaling on vellum and cut the paper strips out to add in for each page.
- Page 3 is filled with 3 photos and I used 3D glue dots to get some more dimension there.
- I added there some of the beautiful Glossy Puffy Stickers from ther Heritage collection and an acetate flower from the Sunny Days collection.
- Next is a page with a little paper flap to hold extra photos. I used the Perennial Paper, cut it to size, folded it and glued it inside. This creates a sort of smaller book inside your mini book to add even more photos!
- Firstly for page 5 I used the cute vellum pocket from the Maggie Holmes Heritage Stationary pack and cut it a little bit smaller. As a result, the bottom was open. Therefore, I used my sewing machine to close the bag on the bottom again and filled it with 3 photos from our vacation.
- Next on the right side I added a little tag from the Sunny Days collection for some journaling to slide behind the photo. So I glued the photo only with the border on the page and punched a semicircle out. It´s easier to pull it out then.
- Finally I had fun decorating everything with the wonderful Heritage Clear Stickers.
- Next I made a page with a little waterfall element on the right side to hold more photos there.
- Also I used the Heritage stamp and die set to make some embellishments from Heritage paper scraps for this page and decorated it with them.
- Finally for the last page I kept it very simple with one photo, the journaling, some clear stickers and the “You Are Everything” Die Cut Shape.
Finishing Touches to Complete This Vacation Themed Mini Album:
In conclusion I always like to go back through the pages at the end and add any finishing touches that I feel are missing.
- First I added some small details here and there with more word stickers and enamel dots and shapes.
- Next for decorating my cover I used the circle scrap from the 1st page and the pretty Foam Alphabet Stickers in black and gold.
- Additionally I also decorated it with branches from the Glossy & Puffy Stickers. Lastly the flower branch from the Heritage Clear Sticker sheets on the border was the perfect finishing touch on my album.
