Tips for Scrapbooking Big Photos

Today we have lots of great scrapbooking tips for you! We are showing you how to make this awesome travel page using one large photo. We also have some great tips for scrapbooking with big photos! 

Hi crafty friends, it’s Ulli here on the Maggie Holmes Blog today! And I have another new scrapbook layout idea using the gorgeous Heritage collection. I made a Summer theme scrapbook page with a big sunset photo from the beach. I love scrapbooking our vacation photos! Even though the Heritage collection has some muted colors, it also matches very well to Summer projects! Let me show you how!

Travel Scrapbook Page Using One Large Photo:

 

• Make a Frame out of Cardstock: First I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out an 8″ circle in the middle of the white 12×12 cardstock. Next I adhered my big photo (size 8″x12″) behind the circle opening. This is how to make a frame out of cardstock!

Tips for Scrapbooking Big Photos:

• Keep the Photo as the Focal Point: You can achieve this by clustering your embellishments around the photo like I did. I decided to add many flowers on the top of the circle and on the left bottom.
• First I fussy cut a flower from one of the Maggie Holmes Heritage pattern papers. Then I layered it along with flower and leaves stickers at the top of the photo.
• Tips for Using Clear Stickers: Ever wanted to know how to make a die cut out of a sticker? That’s what I did here with some of the clear flower stickers. First place them onto plain white cardstock. Second, you will fussy cut them out. This allows you to move the stickers around and they won’t get stuck on your photo! Once you decide where to place them, you can use adhesive to put them down! I love to use 3d glue dots behind some of them to add dimension on my scrapbook page. 

More Tips for Scrapbooking with Large Photos:

• Add a Large Title: It’s nice to use a large title with a large photo. I used one of these wonderful Glossy Puffy title word stickers.
• Use Supporting Embellishments: Make sure everything you add compliments your photo and the theme of your scrapbook page well. Here are a few things I used on my travel scrapbook page. I love the sentiment on this prize ribbon from the Heritage specialty paper. Next, these cute boy and girl silhouette charms work perfectly with photos of your family and kids. I also used these black and gold alphabet stickers to add monograms of my children’s first names.

 

Adding Small Details to a Scrapbook Page:

I always like to finish a scrapbook layout with the small details. You don’t have to add these, but they sure make your page feel even more complete. It’s also a great way to add more visual interest!

• Add Quotes and Journaling: First I wrote a beautiful travel quote around the edge of my picture. Next I used a little tag and ephemera piece to add where the photo was taken. I also love to stamp the date of the photo with a roller date stamp like this one.
• Finishing Touches: I gave my page an artsy element by splattering some black ink across the page. I also love to add some of these small phrase and word stickers that Maggie includes in her collections. And finally I added some enamel dots and hearts here and there.
