Home is Where You Are

Hi there! Hope you are having a great Monday so far! I love Mondays for the fresh new start of a brand new week! I do enjoy getting things organized and ready so that I can accomplish all my goals — including household chores, yard and gardening tasks, things I do as a mom, PLUS the fun things we have in store for the week! If you are like me, I sometimes have to schedule in my creative time or it gets pushed to the bottom of the list and then it doesn’t happen! And I love this little online space because I know I can always come here when I have a little chunk of time and need some inspiration to get me in the creative mode quickly!

I’d love to hear what types of things inspire you about the projects we post here on the blog! Is it the product combinations, the color schemes, the techniques, the tips and tricks, the content ideas, the DIY’s… anything that you think of, please do share! We post a good amount of crafting ideas and tutorials here, along with a lot of scrapbooking inspiration of course, but it’s always helpful for us to hear exactly what you take away from the posts! That helps us to keep providing what you are here for!!

Today, we have a new scrapbook page for you from design team member, Kathleen. I am personally inspired by how darling this layout is and how she has placed all the cute houses, but I am also in LOVE with the title she used!! I love this little saying — Home is Where You Are — and it so perfectly fits how I feel about my family as well. It definitely makes me want to go pull out my supplies right now and create a page with this same sentiment and title! Thanks for the inspiration Kathleen!

Hey friends, it’s Kathleen back with you and I thought I would share a very colorful layout with you today. I don’t know how the fall weather is where you are, but maybe you need a little something to brighten up your day 😉

I am sure that you all have noticed the really pretty illustrations in the Willow Lane collection, such as the super cute little houses that you can find in lots of different embellishments (like the puffy stickers or the cardstock stickers) and the papers. When I was looking through the papers and came across the Cottage paper, I knew that I wanted to fussy cut some of them out and use them on a layout in some way.

Before I had even picked out what photos I wanted to use, the title “Home is wherever you are” popped into my head, so I knew I needed some photos of my husband and our dog. I found just the perfect ones that I had taken on our most recent trip to Spain – which meant that they also fit the theme of this page perfectly. For my title I wanted to use the Cheerful Thickers with the letters in all those different colors and patterns since I felt that they would complement the colors of the little houses perfectly. Because I didn’t want my page to become too busy and I still wanted my photos to stand out, I decided to print them in black and white.

For the houses above my photos I used a mix of fussy cut ones, cardstock stickers and for the middle one I used the blue chipboard sticker house to create a focal point. I also fussy cut one of the trees from the Cottage paper to create a little scene. In order to make my photos stand out even more, I matted them on a few scraps of patterned paper in all the same colors that I had used around my page: pink, yellow, blue and green. I also put a small glassine bag from my stash behind the photo on the right, in which I then put a tag with some hidden journaling. I felt like there was already enough text on the layout, so I didn’t want to add my journaling directly onto my page, too.To finish my page off, I added a few more stickers around the page, as well as some paint splatters. I also felt the need to somehow “frame” my page, but because I had already used so many colors and patterns on the layout, I decided on the black and white side of the Frolic paper (which also repeats the black from the photos). I then also wanted to add some stitching around the page, but my sewing machine went on a strike and my thread kept bunching up, so I finally decided to just add the holes without the thread in them – and I actually really like the subtle detail this adds.

Although this page is a lot more colorful than what I usually tend to create, I really love how it turned out! And I hope you enjoyed this project, too! Thanks for stopping by! Xo, Kathleen
