Dreams Can Come True

Hi friends! It’s always a delight for me to receive the new projects and posts from the design team gals! I love to see the beautiful things they create and to also read their thoughts, tips and tricks, inspiration behind the projects, notes about their creative process, etc. Today’s post especially touched my heart when I read the introduction from Kathleen where she talks about her dream come true moment! (You’ll have to read below to see what I’m talking about.) I am seriously so touched to hear her say that because for me it’s a dream come true to have the opportunity to design and create my products in the first place. It’s so above and beyond what I ever expected to hear others say that it’s a dream for them to get to work with the products and be a part of the team! I am equally honored and thrilled to have Kathleen join the team this year and I am in awe every single time I see the fabulous things she creates! She is so inspiring to me and I hope you enjoy seeing her work here on the blog as much as I do! 

Thanks for being part of the team, Kathleen!! I am so glad that our dreams can both come true at the same time as we work together in this wonderfully fabulous paper crafting world!! I am grateful every day for you, the other design team members, AND all the rest of you out there that continue to buy and create with my products so that I can keep making them!! It’s a wonderful thing to dream big and I love that together we can all help each other make those dreams come true!!

Hey there, it’s Kathleen back here again and today I have a layout to share with you that was one of the things I knew I definitely wanted to create with the Willow Lane collection! You see, getting to be part of the Maggie Holmes Design Team for me really is a dream come true! I still remember that when I started scrapbooking in 2013, I already absolutely loved all of her collections and used to hoard them because they were just too pretty to break into. And over the past years, I have been following all of her DT members and kept oohing and aahing over their projects and I never in a million years would have thought that one day, I would actually get to share my projects with her collections as part of the team!

So you bet I definitely wanted to document this “dream come true” moment, but at the beginning I wasn’t sure how I would do it because a photo of just me didn’t really fit for what I wanted to portray and using a photo of Maggie may have come across a bit weird, haha 😉 So in the end I decided to use a screenshot I took of the blogpost where Maggie announced the new Design Team. By the way, using screenshots (of phone messages, blog posts, etc.) is a great way to document something of which you don’t have an actual photo or that isn’t really something that can be “captured” with a photo.
For this layout I wanted to use a lot of different embellishments from the collection but still keep it very light and bright with a lot of white space. And because I wanted my “photo” to be the focus of the layout, I put it right in the center and then clustered the embellishments around it to really put the spotlight on it. To make the screenshot stand out more from the white cardstock background, I matted it on a piece of the Meadow paper. For the three clusters I cut out quite a few of the flowers on the Sentiment paper and then mixed in some cardstock stickers, some of the floral stickers from the Waterfall stickers pack and a chipboard sticker to the left of the photo to add some more dimension and texture.

(You know I love me some dimension and texture! If you need some tips and tricks for how you can easily incorporate them both on your layouts, check this blogpost I did a while ago on Maggie’s blog)I did add some journaling directly onto my layout, below the title (that is made up of the gold thickers and the cardstock alpha stickers), but there was a lot more that I wanted to document and say, so I also added a small glassine bag behind the photo and put in a tag from the ephemera pack. And thanks to the glassine bag I could also tuck in a printed version of the email I got from Maggie to let me know I was on the team – because, you know, it’s not everyday you get an email like this 😉

I never thought I would be able to use the unicorn from the standouts pack, but on a page like this that is about dreams coming true, I though it fit rather well! And it added even more texture and color to my page. The other standout piece I used (the butterfly in the top right corner of the photo) is from Maggie’s previous collection, Flourish, that I absolutely adored, too.To finish this page off, I added two strips of the Bright Days paper to the left and right side of my layout, ruffled up the edges a little, added some machine stitching, and finally some golden paint splatters to repeat the gold from the title and the butterfly standout.

I’m really happy with how this page turned out because I think it really highlights my scrapbooking style and, of course, because now I have this major “event” documented 🙂
