Elizabeth’s Pink Birthday Party!

Elizabeth Kate turned 4 this year! This birthday seemed like a big one for her. I feel like that jump from age 3 to 4 is quite monumental in them turning from a toddler to a big kid. The cute little way they say and pronounce things wrong starts to suddenly disappear and they start losing their baby fat too. It honestly makes me cry because I absolutely cherish the toddler years with my kiddos. People say terrible two’s and three’s and I just frankly feel exactly the opposite. Sure, they are learning and along with that comes challenges and sometimes a power struggle but those years to me are the absolute best! I get to spend so much time with them and they are saying and doing the cutest things all the time! It’s my favorite!

One of Lizzy’s signature phrases is ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. We don’t know where she got it but she always asks us if she looks absolutely fabulous and she will describe things as absolutely fabulous. Not just fabulous but ABSOLUTELY fabulous! For the longest time she has said it like this “absoyoootyeee fabayus.” It really was the cutest. Then all of a sudden she recently figured out how to pronounce her l’s correctly and she switched in the blink of an eye to saying “absolutely fabulous” with a very strong emphasis on pronouncing that l with gusto! It’s still pretty darn cute the way she says it but I shed quite a few tears over this transition. I would (and still sometimes do) tell her she is now saying it the wrong way and that it is pronounced “”absoyoootyeee fabayus.” We have this little joke going back and forth where I tell her she is saying it wrong and I say it the old way and then she laughs and giggles at me and tells me that is not right and that she doesn’t know how to say it that way.

In classic Lizzy absolutely fabulous style we threw her a pink birthday party and decorated with a whole bunch of bright pink tissue fans! The really big ones are from Shop Sweet Lulu and I layered those in with the smaller pink ones from my Confetti Collection. Mine come 3 to a pack and you get a pink, aqua and a white with gold polka dots tissue fan. For this display I went with all pink but you can also mix and match different color combos! She loved it and we may have left them up for a week or two because they were just so cute!

One of the greatest things about decorating with tissue fans is that you can collapse them back down afterward and store them for another party! They also pack a big punch for the price!

I had some pink peonies that were nearing their last leg so it was perfect timing to cut off the stems and use them on her cake. I have always wanted to decorate a cake with fresh flowers so it worked out perfectly!

As a cake topper I attached this large gold glitter 4 to a skewer and placed that in the middle of the flowers. I also included some from a previous birthday party which I had sprayed gold and decorated with flags using glitter tape.

I frosted the cake and cupcakes with white frosting so they would contrast against the pink background. I also added a few more flag toppers to an extra large cupcake. My kids think they are so special when I make these giant cupcakes. I usually just make one or two and the birthday girl or boy gets it!

The tissue fans really take the show in this display so I didn’t want the things on the table to be too busy. I used light pink and white candy in some of my apothecary jars and used some pieces from my cake plate collection to build everything on layers.

I’m still loving having this DIY gold framed chalkboard that I made a few years back here on the entry table. It’s just so perfect for parties and other holidays! Again I kept it simple here so it wouldn’t be too much with all of the tissue paper fans. A simple script “happy birthday” and that was it!

She was one very happy little 4 year old! It’s so fun decorating for birthday parties and making them feel special on their big day! And even though I may have shed quite a few tears over this change in age, I am still loving every bit of her new older and more grown up self! I kept telling her that I was going to cast a magic spell on her and not let her grow up any more! She told me that would be ok after she had this 4th birthday party! Deal!

It can be a little confusing picking out the sizes and colors of tissue fans. My tips are to order more than you think you will need or measure your space first. Also be sure to allow for overlap because I think they look better when they are layered together. Using a big chalkboard or sign like this helps cover more space and you end up with a bigger display!
