Hi friends! Today we have a fun and easy paper crafting idea! How to make your own Cute DIY Gift Boxes using basic supplies you probably already have on hand! Read on for the full craft tutorial!
Hi there, it’s Kathleen here on the Maggie Holmes Blog with a cute craft project idea for you. I don’t know why, but I’m a little obsessed with cute gift boxes and I just had to make some using the Heritage collection!
Creating these three DIY gift boxes only took about 20-30 minutes. It’s an easy and fun craft project you can make in an afternoon! Also you can make these darling handmade gift boxes with supplies you already have.
How to Make these Cute DIY Gift Boxes:
- To create the base for each box I used this small milk carton die and my favorite die cutting machine. You can use anything similar you have on hand, or get the one I used right here. Also, if you have this gift box punch board, you can use it as well. The gift box punch board is also available here.
- For my boxes I chose patterned papers with some more subtle and neutral patterns. If you choose less busy patterns like I did, your embellishments will stand out better when you decorate the boxes. (The exact papers I used are linked at the end of the post.)
How to Embellish your Cute DIY Gift Boxes:
I have lots of easy and cute ideas for making your own gift boxes. Now that you have your basic gift boxes made, you can decorate them in so many fun ways. Here are some great ideas to get you started!
- Cut out a banner from the Trophies specialty paper & adhere it to the box or wrap it around.
- Create your own layered embellishments with the Heritage Stamp and Die Set. You can make a cute prize ribbon with this stamp and die set. Also I suggest using foam adhesive between the different layers for more dimension.
- You can also make this cute wreath frame and bow with the Heritage stamp and die set. (pictured below on one of my gift boxes) Additionally, you can add a message inside the frame either by stamping or handwriting. Here you could add also the name of the recipient.
- Another fun DIY gift box idea is to add a little piece of ribbon with a small clothespin to the top of the gift box. I used this metallic gold star trim from the Willow Lane collection.
- Your handmade gift boxes would be darling with some baker’s twine tied around them.
- Finally you can use stickers and/or ephemera pieces to dress up the gift boxes!
There’s really no limit for how you can embellish your cute DIY gift boxes! Remember to be creative and have fun with this craft project! It’s also a fun craft project for kids and Tweens because it is easy and doesn’t require any advanced crafting skills. I hope this post inspires you to make some of your own gift boxes!
