Cute DIY Birthday Calendar Notebook

I know you are going to love this project!  Hi there, it’s Kathleen back with you today on the Maggie Holmes Blog to share a cute new paper craft project with you! This is a birthday calendar notebook that you can use to keep track of all the birthdays and special dates to remember! I’m using the beautiful Maggie Holmes Heritage collection to make this DIY birthday book! I was inspired to create this project from the monthly calendar tags paper in Maggie’s Sunny Days collection. It’s called Weekend and it makes your birthday calendar notebook come together fairly quickly and easily!! Here’s how to make it.

Cute DIY Birthday Calendar Notebook:

Back when I was working with the Sunny Days collection, I already had an idea for how I could use the Weekend paper, but I didn’t get around to making it. But now I did! I combined that paper with elements from the Heritage collection to create a Birthday calendar! This is a super simple project to create and is also a fun craft to make with teens. Additionally, it’s fairly easy to mass-produce, so it would make a great handmade Christmas gift idea, too!

Supplies Needed to Make this Cute DIY Birthday Calendar Notebook:

• Monthly calendar tags paper from Maggie Holmes Sunny Days collection – “weekend”
• Patterned papers from your favorite collection – I’m using papers from Maggie Holmes Heritage collection
• A piece of chipboard (3.5″x5″) for the back cover – you can use this heavy sturdy chipboard here
• A few embellishments (preferably more flat), like stickers or die cuts – again I’m using the cute products from Maggie’s Heritage range
• Cinch wire binder & wires for diy book binding and scrapbook mini albums- available here (or, if you don’t own one, you could use book rings instead)

Birthday Tracker Notebook DIY:

• Firstly, cut out the monthly calendar cards from this paper called “Weekend” from Sunny Days.
• Secondly, cut 13 papers to 3.5″ x 5″. These will make your pages of the birthday notebook. I used different pattern papers from Heritage and also some of the cards from this Heritage boxed cards set. You need 12 for the monthly pages and one for the cover.
• Thirdly, adhere the calendar pages to the patterned papers.
• Next, you can embellish each page to your liking. Also embellish the cover.
• Now, take the small piece of chipboard and cover it with patterned paper to create the back cover. (I chose the wood grain pattern of the Lifetime paper.)
• Use the Cinch book binding tool to punch the holes and bind the pages and your cover all together. Or if you are using book rings to bind your birthday calendar notebook, punch the holes with a Crop-a-Dile and finish with the book rings.

Embellishments to Decorate Your Notebook:

I used lots of stickers from the Maggie Holmes Heritage Clear Sticker Book. Additionally, I used some die cuts and some flowers I had fussy cut from different papers to embellish each of the calendar pages. Tip: It’s a good idea to keep the pages relatively flat so the calendar doesn’t become too bulky.

More Ideas for Making your Birthday Notebook Calendar:

Of course you can adapt the calendar notebook to your needs. For instance, you could cut down some printer paper and add it in between the calendar pages to have some room for notes. Or, if you don’t want to use it as a perpetual calendar, you could add more patterned paper pages where you could add your favorite photo(s) of each month as the year passes. So by the end of the year you would have a little mini album with the highlights of the past year. What a fun idea for a cute yearly highlights mini scrapbook album right!
