I’ve always been a fan of color, but I am also very drawn to neutrals as well, especially black, white and gold of course! Design team member, Jessy has such a fabulous scrapbook page for us today using that tried and true combination. Sometimes this combo is perfect because it allows us to really focus on the image and the subject of the page, which in this case is her darling daughter! I also love how she used some gesso on the background paper to tone it down and to give some white space for her to build everything on top of. Read on to find out how to make this beautiful layout!
I always love the black & white patterned papers that Maggie designs for her collections. Particularly, I really love the black & white diagonal stripe in the Carousel collection and of course the black & white polkadots too! Stripes & polka-dots are just perfect combo.
Let me share with you my creative process for making this page today…
First, I used gesso to paint over the polka-dot paper to give a subtle look. Once that was dried, I adhered the diagonal stripes on the left side of my layout. Then, I started to work with the composition where I placed the photo in the middle and arranged the ephemera die-cuts all around the photo. I wanted to keep this layout with monochrome colors in mind but with a splash of gold. Choosing specific colors really help me to speed up the creative process too. I really loved the end result. And as always, I completed my layout with hand-journaling. Layering has been one of my preferred techniques whenever I create. It definitely gives a very interesting outcome to my creations. I always love including paper doilies to create the softer look to my layout. That black & white bow is just perfect. It sure gave the dimension that I wanted!
