Tips for Layering with Paper & Vellum

I’m a huge fan of layering on my scrapbook pages and cards because I love that it gives the layout dimension and makes things pop off of the page a little instead of being so flat. Stephanie has a darling page to share with us today that shows lots of fabulous layering! I especially love how she layered vellum over vellum on the left side. Such a pretty effect! Keep reading for lots of great tips on layering!

Hi Maggie fans!  Stephanie back with you in this new year to share a new page using Maggie’s Open Book collection.  I know I’ve mentioned this before, but this collection really does have it all!  I love all the little bits and pieces and especially love to layer them together on pages and in mini albums. The Open Book papers are perfect for layering on one another and that is exactly what inspired me as I was putting my page together.

I started my layout by choosing a few of my favorite patterned papers, as well as some vellum paper. For my paper layers, I like to have a nice mix of bold and neutral peeking out on my page.  I find that vellum works really nicely as an in-between layer.  It also helps to soften the page altogether.

For the left side of my page, I created a pocket using a piece of regular vellum and added in a few tags using the decorative pins.  The pins work great to hold the tags into place, and also add a fun bit of texture, color and dimension to the page.  On the front of the vellum pocket, I added a script sticker.

After the pocket was complete, I backed it with a piece of gold vellum and a doily from the banner kit.  The banner kit from the Open Book collection is just amazing and I love how all of the elements can easily be incorporated into a various number of projects!!

I then turned my attention to the right side of my page.  Here, I decided to add my photo with a few contrasting paper layers and a pretty floral sticker.  To continue the vellum elements on the page, I stapled a stitched vellum embellishment on top of the sticker.

I finished the page with a line of journaling (more journaling is written on the back of the tags in the vellum pocket) and a few glittered paint splatters.  I love how the gold splatters help bring out the pops of gold in the decorative pins, as well as the vellum and stickers!  I just can’t enough of gold these days!!  What about you??

Thanks so much for joining me today!  I hope this page has inspired you to pull out your Open Book collection and layers some pretty papers together!!  Happy creating!

Happy Thursday!
