Thanks & Thoughts on Having a Girl!!

Thanks so much to all of you for your sweet comments!! We are super super excited to have a little baby girl around here!! I have to say that we were completely shocked!! I was really hoping for a girl this time but trying not to get my hopes up and preparing for them to say – it’s another boy!! We still would have been excited and happy if it was a boy because we love our boys to death and really, we don’t know any different. But, when the ultrasound technician said it was a girl, we just couldn’t believe it!

We actually found out during the first part of the ultrasound and then the technician was saying “she” and “little princess” and things like that during the rest of it. And it really seemed so wierd to hear those words – it just didn’t seem right! After having 3 boys, our whole lives are “all boy”. Everything we do is boy stuff – sports, light sabers, blue, blue, green, cars, trucks, blue, and more blue, etc. etc. In fact, I never refer to them as “my kids”; instead I am always saying “my boys” this and “my boys” that. So, I will have to get used to saying “my kids” instead of “my boys.”

And the crazy thing is that we have nothing for a girl! I have bins and bins of boy clothing – every size and style. And our toy room is chuck full of all boy toys! We will have to clear out some space in there for some princess things, barbies, dolls, maybe a kitchen someday!! It is so exciting and it will be so fun – just seems a little overwhelming right now to think of basically starting all over with everything!

I went to a few stores last week to buy some things and the funny thing is that I only ended up buying one little pair of shoes! Everything is so cute that I couldn’t decide what to buy! There are all types of embellished jeans and skirts and leggings and dresses, etc. etc. With boys you just grab a pair of jeans or shorts (not many to choose from) and then either a t-shirt or a golf shirt. It’s so basic and easy with boys because you can either choose from plain, plaid or striped! With all this girl stuff there is just so much to choose from!!

Then last night I went to Target and I finally bought some things – a package of little pink onesies, a package of the little “sack” nightgowns that gather at the bottom (those are our favorite), a little soft pink and floral outfit with a matching blankie, and then a cute little sundress! It was so much fun and I think it really started to hit me that we are having a girl because I got all emotional after I checked out and was walking to the car! I couldn’t hold back the tears of excitement and gratitude! Not only do I get to be a mom again, which I am always so grateful for, but I get to have the little girl that I have always dreamed of having!

It still seems a bit surreal and unbelievable – hard to imagine to say the least! I can’t bring myself to put any of the things I have bought away because I want them out where I can see them and touch them and look at them often! Just seeing this little pile of pink things sitting on the counter brings a huge smile to my face and makes me so happy!!

I have never really had a photo of me taken when I am pregnant – not like that at least. I usually try to avoid the camera because I always look back and think I look awful! But I thought it would be fun to have one this time – especially right after we found out it is a girl. My sweet husband took the photo – and did a great job too I think!! Thanks again!!
