Scrapbooking: Creating Keepsakes Mixed Media Blog Hop & Giveaway

Creating Keepsakes has a new special issue out that focus on mixed media! It is super inspiring if you want to try out some new techniques and mediums that go beyond the norm….

Here is a sneak peek into the issue:

And here is a peek at a project I made for this issue:

20120717_Maggie1The butterfly shape was punched out and then I filled it with little microbeads. Here are the steps if you want to try this technique yourself:

1. Punch out your desicred shape.

20120717_Maggie2

2. Use foam circles or another dimensional adhesive to adhere the punched paper to another solid sheet of cardstock or paper. You will want to outline the whole shape (on the back of the paper with the foam circles to create a sort of barrier to block the microbeads from sliding underneath and getting lost behind the paper where you can't see them.

3. Fill the shape now with diamond glaze or another liquid adhesive and pour in the microbeads. You will want to keep adding the diamond glaze and beads until you fill up the opening to the top.

You can do this same technique with any shape you want to punch!

You can purchase the issue here and here is also a link to some bonus online content for Mixed Media Scrapbooking!

I am giving away one copy of this special issue. To enter, comment on this post and I will be back to draw a winner at random later in the week.

You can also visit the other blogs that are participating in the blog hop for more inspiration, ideas and chances to win!

You can trim the cards so you can display the front design and inside messages side-by-side. Another idea is to create card collages if you have lots of cards to include.

My favorite part of the card is the butterfly. I love how you added red to the inside of the butter to make it stand out more.
