School Starts

Tyler started school on Monday. He is in Kindergarten this year but he is gone all day because the K program is a full day here in Arizona now. We have been very excited for him and he has been so excited – looking forward to it all summer!

I wasn’t able to take him because you aren’t supposed to drive for a few weeks after having a c-section. I wish I could have taken him to see him off. My friend that I carpool with took him for me and she had promised me she would take some pictures of him. Well, she said that he was so excited that he just ran into the classroom and she literally had about 20 seconds to snap a couple of shots as he was running in! I love this one that she got of him! You can tell that he is not interested in getting his picture taken – but wants to just get in there!! Too cute!! The other two she got are of him from behind as he is running in the door – also really cute! She said that as he was running in she could hear a couple of kids say “There’s Tyler Holmes, he is here!” She told me that after she dropped him off and it made me feel a lot better because I was worried about him having friends in his class. I think it always helps to have some familiar faces – especially on the first day in a new school!!

I didn’t realize until he left that morning how sad I would be and how much I would miss him. He was gone all day for two years when he went to the Pingree School for Autism in Utah but since we have been here in Arizona he has only been gone to school 1/2 day (which is really only 3 hours). I guess I thought that since he went to school all day every day before that it wouldn’t be as hard to send him off to Kindergarten. But, I have gotten used to him being home more and have really enjoyed the time I have had with him! It finally just hit me that he will be gone every day – all day – from now on!! I was really sad all day and I have missed him this whole week!

On the plus side, he has loved it!! He has a couple of friends from the neighborhood in his class and is making new friends also. He also says that his teacher is “really, really nice”. He loves eating lunch at school and having recess and he says that he has fun every day! He has been a little tired – adjusting to being gone all day again. Part of the problem is that he and Nathan share a room now so they don’t go right to sleep when we put them in bed. They usually talk and play for at least an hour until they finally go to sleep! Wednesday morning when I went in to wake Tyler up he was super tired and didn’t want to get up. He told me “I think I should just miss today, mom.” And I thought – Oh, no, we cannot be starting this already on the 3rd day of Kindergarten!! He is a funny guy!!

Tyler is so cute! I agree about the long day too. It’s so good for Kyla, I know, because she was getting so bored at home, but the days are so long and it makes me sad to think that it’s not ending anytime soon either.

Tyler looks so cute and all grown up! I love all of the pictures you have taken of little Emily. She is so beautiful and tiny! My favorite is the one with all the toys…so cute! 🙂 She is a lucky little girl to be surrounded by such a loving, caring family.

hope you’re doing good and not missing him too much. i guess it takes some getting used to … but he’s having fun and learning lots … so it’s all good, right!
