Today I’m sharing the reveal of our powder bathroom in collaboration with Rejuvenation, one of my favorite sources for unique and beautiful light fixtures.

When it comes to building + designing a home, lighting is everything! It’s important not to overlook this aspect, not only for the look and feel of a space, but for functionality as well. Light fixtures can set the entire tone for a room, especially a smaller space like a bathroom where it really becomes a focal point.

I’m all about mixing different styles and choosing things you love as opposed to buying one style of light for every single bathroom. I also feel like you can have fun with lighting, especially in a powder bath, because you typically only need one fixture. So it becomes a place where you can try something a little unique or even trendy because you can always switch it out down the road without having to overhaul the entire bathroom.

I chose this Reed Industrial Swing-Arm Wall Sconce in the old brass finish for our powder bathroom. I’m in love! It has a double buckle articulation so you can adjust each elbow joint to position it in all different ways!

This black and white floral wallpaper was one of the very first things I picked and bought when we started building. The instant I saw it, it felt like it was completely me and I just knew that it needed to be in our home somewhere. I settled on the powder bath as a home for this beautiful paper because again, it’s a smaller space where I wanted to have some fun. I love that this floral wallpaper is unique, but also classic in the sense that it has a very timeless and traditional feel to it. I know it’s something I won’t be sick of in 6 months time.

When it came to lighting, I chose a single wall sconce for the bathroom that has a definite industrial feel to it because I wanted a contrast to the wallpaper and also to keep things interesting and current. I love the way the crisp clean lines of the Reed sconce look against the very soft and feminine wallpaper.

Design Tip >> If you can, I definitely recommend also installing overhead recessed lights in all of your bathrooms, especially one like this where you don’t have a window. That way you will have a more evenly lit room and won’t be dependent on your sconce as the only source of light. If I didn’t have recessed light in here, I likely wouldn’t have been happy with this choice, since I would have then only had light from one single bulb. I added 1-4 recessed lights into each of our bathrooms depending on room size and it was money well spent!

We also added an additional layer of drama and elegance to the room by installing this black marble tile part way up the walls. It’s actually granite but looks like marble and then the ogee trim pieces at the top are real marble. This was another material that I fell in love with the minute I saw it. I kept trying to find somewhere to use it in our home but the fact that it’s shiny/polished made it not a great choice for flooring, because I didn’t want to create a slipping hazard for our little ones!

Then when I decided on this application for the black marble look tile I was beyond excited to see it come together with everything else we had chosen. In all honesty my husband was a little (or a lot) nervous about me choosing a black tile (especially when most everything else I had chosen to that point was white!) but I went with my gut and it’s turned out to be one of our favorite things we did.

I love that this bathroom makes a statement and feels a little bit bolder and different than the rest of our home. It’s a bit eclectic, yet classic at the same time, and feels 100% me!
