My Story

As scrapbookers or memory documenters (whatever you might call yourself) we tend to spend a lot of time telling the stories of our family and loved ones in our scrapbooks. Often times, we leave ourselves out… maybe it’s unintentional, maybe it’s on purpose because we feel self conscious or maybe we haven’t even thought about it. No matter the reason, it is not really ok! You are part of the story too! You matter, your feelings and thoughts matter and your photos are valuable to those you love and those that are in your posterity! I know it’s easy to brush it aside and say that if you scrapbook about yourself, you are just being vain. However I believe that isn’t true, so don’t let it be your excuse! I absolutely LOVE to look back at photo albums that my grandma made! They are so special to me and I TREASURE them! Can you imagine if she wasn’t in ANY of the photos?! It would honestly be tragic to me! Back then they didn’t do much journaling in their albums so I do wish there was more of her thoughts and feelings but she did write things on the backs of her photos and I’m grateful for every single word!

What got me thinking about this today is Kim’s layout that she’s sharing with us using the Carousel collection. She snapped a quick little selfie with her phone and then she talks about the importance of telling your story and that you should never forget to tell it and share it. In the end, it’s a page that includes her, but it’s a message to her children that they can look at later on in life and learn from her wisdom. I love that!! Thanks so much for the inspiration Kim!

I think it’s important to tell your story, even if it’s just little tidbits about yourself, from time to time. Every now and then I’ll use a photo of myself on a scrapbook page. Right about now in my life I have a passion for paint and flowers and I really wanted to express that on my page.

After painting a little ombré background I hand cut out the word “story” on the top layer of my layout. I love little techniques like this because it lets me try out new color combinations. From here I just wrapped a little journaling around where I cut my letters out. I added lots of fussy cut flowers from the new collection around my page as well. There are so many fun things in the new collection! Anything with a little flowers is just perfect for me! Happy crafting! Happy Thursday!
