Hi there!! I absolutely LOVE today’s project that Stephanie is sharing with us! I am a big fan of using photos to decorate in our home so I am always searching for fun and new ideas to turn our photos into home decor. These mini canvases that Stephanie has decorated using my new Open Book collection turned out so lovely!!! I also love that she kept them fairly neutral so that they could fit into any home!!!
I am always in search of new and unique ways to utilize my pretty papers and embellishments. I love creating layouts and albums, but I especially love creating projects that I can hang in my home for all to see.
This project began with a pack of five blank canvases from the craft store. I had purchased these canvases for a painting project, but never got around to using them. When I started brainstorming how I wanted to use the amazing new Open Book collection, these little blank canvases jumped right out at me! I had thought about binding them together to make a thicker mini album, but in the end, I just loved how they looked hanging all together.
Each canvas is roughly 6×8 inches. I love the smaller size and I approached the “decorating” method like I do in my art journals (which is a little different from my scrapbook pages).
I began by trimming down a few of the Open Book patterned papers. When I create layers on a project, I like to have a contrast between neutrals and bolder colors, so I always look for pops of black/white and dark pink and pair them with more subtle papers (think white, kraft, book paper, text). I especially loved using the transparency papers from this collection!! They are just divine and layer so beautifully with the other papers!
I layer using a bottom-to-top method and typically end with a lighter/neutral color as the top layer. I think this helps keep projects light and airy. The finishing touches of most of my projects are pretty flowers, die cuts, frames and clips! These little extras help bring attention to the photos, while adding a little visual interest to a project!
I tried to keep a little consistency throughout the canvases by adding in pops of gold here and there! The sparkly golds really make this collection amazing! There is nothing better than a little black, white and pink with a fun burst of gold!
The layers definitely make this project look more involved, but putting these canvases together couldn’t have been easier! I swear that the hardest part really is cutting that first piece of paper of a new collection! It’s kind of like pulling off a bandaid right?? But as soon as you cut that first piece and start layering things together, it just gets more and more fun!!
Thanks so much for joining me today!! I am so inspired by this new amazing collection and I hope you are too!!
