Creating with Cork!!

Stephanie says she is loving the cork sheets from the Styleboard collection and so am I…..which is why I am so thrilled that she created two projects for us today using cork! It adds such a warm tone to anything you create and I also love the texture it adds too!! Now we can all stop hoarding it and put it to good use following this inspiration from Stephanie!

I've been hoarding my cork paper from the Styleboard collection for a while now.  It's so pretty and lovely and I've been waiting for the right project to come to mind so I could put it to use.  When I think about cork, I usually think about message boards or inspiration boards.  So with those two thoughts in mind, I went to work creating and put together two fun projects to share with you today!!

I started both projects by trimming down my cork paper to squares.  The easiest way I've found to do this is to use a ruler and pen to mark my cutting point and then use scissors to trim down the cork.  Once my squares were trimmed, I decided to add a few geometrical patterns/shapes to the pieces that I wanted to use on my layout.  The pops of white are pretty subtle, but I love how they break up the brown from the cork.  After my squares dried (which only takes a few minutes), I began adding my photos, paper layers and embellishments!

I used a 2×2 grid pattern for my layout and built each little cork square individually, using three cork pieces for photos and one for my journaling. 

Simple wooden clothespins and a few coordinating embellishments finished my page.

I typed my journaling on a piece of white card stock and layered a photo overlay on top to bring your eye to the words. Using my leftover cork pieces, I decided to create a small message board for my desk.  I confess that I'm a list-lover, so making a pretty place just for my lists is like the icing on my cake.

I used a small square frame that I've had for quite some time.  It was originally black, so I grabbed my gold spray paint and gave it a nice fresh coat.  I liked the way the white matte looked with with gold frame, so I kept it as it was and just added in some cork paper in place of a photo.  I used a Styleboard Sticky Pad to list my "to-do's" and attached it to my cork with a metal stud.  I love that I can change or add things as I need to.  And I also love that it's small enough for my desk!
