Yesterday Nathan turned 2!! I can’t believe how big he is all of a sudden! Maybe it is because we are having this new baby soon or maybe it is because he really has had a growth spurt, but he just seems like he is not a baby anymore! He is so big and so smart and the things he says make him seem so grown up! I think it helps that he has two older brothers to follow. He says things and does things that seem so funny coming from a little two year old.
For example: Yesterday, Brian got him out of bed and we always ask him if he had a good sleep. He usually just says yes but the conversation went like this…
Brian – “Good morning, Nathan, did you have a good sleep?”
Nathan – “No… No, I didn’t”
Brian – “You didn’t? Why not?”
Nathan – “Cause”
We were both laughing so hard – the fact that he said “No, I didn’t” seemed so funny. He has never said that before.
He is also very good at communicating what he wants. The other day I was putting a show on for him and Blues Clues was on. I asked him if he wanted to watch it and he said, “No, don’t want dis, not bues cues.” So, I asked him what he wanted to watch and he said “Dora.”
He also loves for me to sit on the couch with him to watch his shows lately. He will come find me and tell me “Pease, Mama, couch?” Then he will just snuggle right up to me on the couch and watch his show. I absolutely love it and we have been doing a lot of that lately because I know that before too long he won’t want anything to do with snuggling!!
Whenever we are on the phone he wants to talk too. He says “I talk” over and over until we let him have a turn talking. Then he will get on the phone and say “Hi, it’s Nate.”
Some more fun facts about Nathan at 2 years old:
still loves the Backyardigans but also loves Dora and “Go Go” (Diego)
is a great little helper – will put things away for me and loves to put his diapers in the garbage
loves all of his “B’s” (blankies) and can’t sleep without them
loves to play “hoops” with his brothers in the backyard
does most things left-handed at this point — coloring, eating, throwing
gets his own shoes out of the shoe bucket by the back door and puts them on by himself (his crocs)
also sits down on the floor right when we come home from somewhere, takes off his shoes, and puts them away in the bucket
tells us exactly what he wants for breakfast every morning. lately it has been “sidernan twix” (spiderman trix)
loves to give us kisses and “hocks” (hugs)
when we tuck him in bed at night he says “bye, night night, wub um (love you)”
is always asking me “where’s daddy?” during the day
loves to play “dolf” (golf)
and the last story: whenever we are going outside he always says “it’s raining.” When we are at a store and we are done paying and heading out the door he will yell back to the cash register or whoever is around and say “bye, thanks, it’s raining!” It is so hysterical! I think he says it because it was actually raining for a couple of days a while back and so whenever we would leave the house I would say “it’s raining.” So, I think he thinks that it is just something you say when you are getting in the car and leaving. I have been trying to teach him that it is not raining – it is really always hot and sunny now! But, he has also figured out that we think it is funny when he says it, so now he just says it to show off and to get us to laugh and smile!
We absolutely adore our little Nathan! He brings us so much happiness! Everything he does is so cute and so funny! I am always calling Brian during the day to tell him what new thing Nathan has said! It is so fun to see them grow up and do new things, but it also makes me so sad! Sometimes I wish I could just freeze the time!
Even though most people say that this is the “terrible two’s”, I really have to disagree! I love this age – love to see them learning and discovering new things – developing their little personalities. I love to hear them talking and saying all of the funny things they say at this age – when they still say things in cute ways and not the “right” way. I love that he still has baby fat and that I can squeeze and kiss his soft cheeks! I love that his hands and feet and legs are still chubby and oh so cute! I love that at this age they haven’t figured out how to talk back yet and they still think that mom and dad are the greatest ever! I love that he is always happy – has no worries or cares in the world. I love that his sole purpose in life right now is to have fun, enjoy each day, play, play, and play some more!!
We love you Nathan – up to the sky and back and sooooooo much!
