Giveaways

Hi there! I am happy to say that we have a lot of the Christmas decorations up and it is definitely starting to feel very festive around here. We really just have the tree left and hopefully we will get that set up and decorated tomorrow!

Emily Jane thinks that the decorations mean it is someone's birthday. She keeps looking at everything and saying "birthday party!" And I also keep hearing her sing "happy birthday to you, for emwee".

She is also going around singing "mommy and daddy are maaaaaaad" which is from the song "I'm gettin nuttin for Christmas" that she has been listening to on my phone all week. We think it is pretty cute but when she is singing it in the store people are probably wondering what kind of parents we are if our 2 year old daughter is singing about us being mad! 🙂

……………………………………………………………………..

Anyway, on to the giveaways!

The first one is brought to you by Scrapbook Trends Magazine. They are giving away a pink Making Memories Slice!! You know I love the Slice and if you don't have one already then be sure to head over to their blog to find out how to enter to win! Or even if you already have one you can still enter — the pink one is pretty darn cute! 🙂

Just to show you a tiny tidbit of what the Slice can do here is a project I did with it.

Christmas Card Inside

Most of the elements in this card were cut with the Slice! I especially love all of the tags and scalloped edge shapes that it cuts! I find myself using those a lot!

Next we have another giveaway sponsored by Creating Keepsakes Magazine. They were nice enough to give me two copies of Elizabeth Kartchner's new book titled "52 More Scrapbooking Challenges" and I would love to ship my extra copy to one of you!

52 More Scrapbooking Challenges

If you don't already follow Liz's blog, then you must check it out and I guarantee you are in for a treat. Not only is she super talented but she is also adorable and incredibly sweet. (and no, she isn't paying me to say this! 🙂 ) I met her a couple years ago when we were both teaching at the CKC in Mesa and we have been friends ever since! She is great! This book is nothing short of what I expected from her — cute and clever and full of inspiration!! Love it!

To enter to win this giveaway all you have to do is leave a comment here on this post and tell me something your family does to celebrate the holidays. It can be anything from a small and simple tradition to a big activity…. whatever you do that makes the season fun and memorable! I am trying to think of lots of fun things to do with my family this Christmas season and I could use some fresh ideas!

I will draw a winner on Monday! Good luck!

Ooh! Wonderful giveaways! We have a tradition that I love. . .We take our four kiddos through a city display called “The fantasy of lights” which is a big park that you drive through and look at Christmas light displays set to Christmas music. After that, we go to a Pizza King (our fave) that is so cozy with funky lights and bench swings for seats and stain glass windows. There is a juke box that has the best music and the kids love to pick songs. It’s so much fun! =)

OH! fun! I think Liz’s book does look great! We always each get to pick out a new ornament each christmas and one of them is an ornament that we can put a picture in. So, I am hoping that over the years we will have a picture from each christmas and eventually it can be it’s separate tree.

One of my favorite tradition we do is the opening of Christmas presents at midnight. We are usually just coming home from our annual Christmas party so we let the kids open their presents, since we’re all pretty wide awake (all that eating and “partying” at the party). I love seeing them tear into their presents and just watch their eyes. It reminds me of my childhood Christmases and I hope that when they are in my shoes, they will remember these moments too.

we don’t do anything out of the ordinary. And this year is a unusual for us, as my husband is still frantically trying to get the crops out of the field. It’s not going to feel like Christmas or even December really–until that task is done. What a crazy year it’s been.

My daughter has been talking about it already- she can’t wait to go again!! (she even drew ice skates on herself in today’s self-portrait!) 🙂

Before my older siblings grew up and moved away from home, my family would always take the time to go sledding up in the mountains together around the holidays. we do the ‘regular’ stuff like put up lights and decorate the tree. nothing really i’d call a tradition. when i was a kid we’d always go see this huge christmas display that a man put up in his giant yard every year and we always got to open one gift on christmas eve. it seems small and sort of insignificant, but i looked forward to both and they are great memories to me. now that we have a daughter of our own, i’d like to start some new traditions of our own… what those are remains to be seen.

Love the use of the crumbly crepe or tissue paper and the scrunched ribbon with those fabulous homemade die cuts. Those are incredible prizes.
Just the effort that is made to get together with relatives and friends, near and far, make the holiday season so special. For me, it is celebrating the birth of a Savior for any who receive him. But, to me, the effort by all to connect ties in to that very special message.
    Happy Holidays!

This will be my third Christmas spent alone, far away from my family — 5 children and 6 grandchildren. I spend all my time scrapbooking and crafting. My daughter’s birthday is Christmas Eve. Until she was four she thought all the Christmas festivities were for her. So, I can relate, very well, to Emily Jane’s ideas. We tried very hard to make her birthday special, even with all the other activities that surround Christmas. She will be 35 this year and still talks about her special birthdays, as a kid. Would love a copy of Liz’s book! We do Christmas the day after Thanksgiving on my side of the family. Because we have a big dinner on Thanksgiving, we just do leftovers, yummy snack foods and cookies for Christmas, which makes everything so easy. We always watch the Nebraska vs. Colorado football game, and then open presents. It is so much fun, and also makes it easy because we all can go to visit the other sides of our family on Christmas and not have any interfering schedules.

Our Christmas Eve tradition is for whoever the first person on the 24th says Christmas Eve gift gets a small gift along with a very large candy cane (which is what my mother and her mother would get as gifts). We then make Christmas decorated cookies that afternoon. Everyone helps bake and decorate.

My favorite time of the holidays is Christmas Eve. We would drive around town to look at all the neighborhood lights and decorations. Our favorite was a house so decked out, we almost had to wear sunglasses! Every year the owner would add something new and the boys would have fun deciding on what it was. We’d make our way home for family games night and a bowl of clam chowder to warm us up. The boys are now 28 and 26 and we still carry on this tradition!

We’ve decided to start a new tradition this year with our kids. We already have them draw names for each other, to buy a gift. But we decided that since I am the one who pays for the gifts, I want them to do an act of service for the person they drew. They are all actually excited about it and are thinking hard about what they can do for each other that would mean a lot.

Our Christmas tradition has almost always involved travel; first to visit out of state parents and now to visit our adult children who live 1600 miles away. The years that we stay home, our tradition is to decorate the tree together, attend Christmas Eve services at our Church, and just hang out at home together on Christmas day. Thanks for a chance to win. Iris Soscia

    December 5, 2009 at 6:13 pm

Every Christmas morning all the children come in our room and wake us up and we say a prayer around our bed then go downstairs to see what’s in the stockings. I slip the breakfast casserole made the night before into the oven. Then from youngest to oldest we watch as each person opens all their presents under the tree. We have four children so this takes about an hour, just in time to take breakfast out of the oven, which we feast on with hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls. We stay in our pj’s all day and just play, play, play. FUN!

we have so many traditions! we start by getting hot chocolate( even though we live in New Orleans) before we get our christmas tree. on christmas eve the only thing on the tv is a christmas story ( bc it plays on tbs for 324 hours!! love it) On christmas day we always eat cinnamon rolls while taking a break from opening presents. we keep the camera rolling along with christmas music all day. and once thanksgiving is over i only have christmas music playing in my car to get the season started. im so excited to have my 8 month old son celebrate his first christmas and share all our traditions.

My family has a special tradition that i love. Each person makes a dish, and then we all make recipes for that dish, enough for everyone. We then swap them at Christmas time. We’ve been doing this since about 1995, so with 20+ people, our cookbook is pretty large!

One special tradition our family has is to drive around looking at Christmas lights on Christmas eve and return home to find that the “elves” have filled the stockings. This was something from my childhood and although my husband finds it odd, he indulges my desire to continue the tradition.

Oh I love this giveaway and am so excited about Liz’s book!
One of the things we do each holiday is I wrap all of our children’s christmas books that I have collected over the years and put them in a giant basket. Each evening my son picks a “present book” out of the basket, he opens it and we all read it together as a family on the couch before bedtime. He loves it that he is able to open a little gift every night and its a surprise which book he will pick each time. This year we have our one year old to share this tradition with. They love it!

Now that our kids are older, we take them out to lunch on Christmas Eve to a “real” restaurant. They really look forward to it. We also have a neighborhood service family night, where everyone brings toys and food and we drink hot cocoa, eat cookies and stand around the portable fire pits to stay warm and socialize. Good times. One more. We started this years ago with our children and they–and we–love it. We buy them each five gifts: Something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read. Then a gift from Santa. It’s a great way for them to look at the difference between wants and needs and makes shopping so simple for me. Have a merry and bright Christmas with those sweet little ones of yours! Such a fun time at their ages.

We make goodies together and then go caroling to our neighbors and deliver them… We go and visit the L.A. Temple to look at the pretty christmas lights, and I bring hot cocoa and cookies that we enjoy afterwards… and a new one that we started this year after seeing it on another blog is reading a new christmas book each night until christmas. I changed it just a tad since we are on a tight budget this year, I went to the library and got lots of fun christmas stories that we can read together, instead of buying.

Our tradition is enjoying my Grandma’s split pea soup on Christmas Eve. It started several years ago, when we realized that not only did we not need a huge meal with all the sides, but the grandchildren would just rush through the meal, since no presents until dishes were done! So win/win … it works for everyone now!

On Christmas Eve, the kids get to open one gift (we did this when I was small and it was always our Christmas gown or pjs… gotta tell you that it got old as we got older, lol). So I wanted to change it up a bit for my kids. They either get a book they’ll ♥, or a game that we can play in front of the tree. That way we can all settle down together and read from their new books or play a game.
I also do the advent calendar with little boxes… every day can’t be a treat, so the other days are jokes. It’s fun to see them enjoy opening the boxes each day in Dec!

I always hated having my bday in Dec., people would give you gifts with the tags saying Happy Bday and Merry XMas too. As a child I would always feel cheated. When I got older, I always made sure that anyone who’s bday was in Dec. got special recognition for their bday. I always loved Christmas when I was younger, bringing home the construction paper ordnaments we made in grade school, and the creations you came up with on “snow days” when you couldn’t find anyone to play with. My first Christmas away from home was spent all alone, I was so broke I couldn’t afford a phone, so I couldn’t even receive a call from home. I swore I would never feel that bad again if I could help it. 30 years later, I found myself in the same sitution again. All alone at xmas. My fiance’ of 30 years killed himself, he was always with me at xmas, and always understood how I felt about xmas. With him gone and just recently having to put my cat down after having her for 17 yrs. Xmas was no longer fun or joyful. I haven’t been able to bring xmas back yet, no matter how hard I try. One day I’ll get back to enjoying xmas again.I just have to afford it and find someone who enjoys xmas as much as I do. I have been trying to improve my photo skill, but my printer died on me and I haven’t been able to afford a new one yet. I just need to be able to print out my photo’s so I can see where I need to adjust and improve my skills. One day xmas will feel good again and I’ll be back to decorating and cooking again. I have hope things will change for the better, I’ve had all the bad Christimes one person should endure for a lifetime.

One thing I’d really like to say is always that before acquiring more laptop or computer memory, take a look at the machine in which it would be installed. When the machine will be running Windows XP, for instance, the particular memory ceiling is 3.25GB. The installation of greater than this would purely constitute a waste. Make sure that one’s motherboard can handle the particular upgrade volume, as well. Good blog post.Mathew J Anti-Wrinkle Injections 58 Cotham Road, Kew VIC 3101

One thing I’ve noticed is that often there are plenty of beliefs regarding the banks intentions if talking about foreclosed. One fable in particular is the bank desires your house. The lending company wants your cash, not the house. They want the funds they gave you having interest. Averting the bank will still only draw a foreclosed summary. Thanks for your posting.

My experience working for Consumer Genius was extremely disappointing. Although I completed all my job responsibilities and worked hard, I haven’t received my salary for four months. Despite trying to contact the company several times, I haven’t received a response or any explanation for the delay. It’s not only unethical but also illegal to withhold employees’ salaries. This conduct reflects poorly on the company’s professionalism and respect towards their workforce. I strongly advise anyone against working for this company or considering any business dealings until they show a genuine commitment to treating their employees with respect and paying their salaries on time.

You can also purchase your international holiday insurance policy on-line by using your current credit card. All you should do is always to enter your own travel specifics and you can begin to see the plans side-by-side. You only need to find the plan that suits your budget and needs and then use your bank credit card to buy that. Travel insurance on the web is a good way to start looking for a dependable company for international travel insurance. Thanks for expressing your ideas.
