I can’t believe that she is already over a week old! And it is amazing how much they change – you can see a little bit of change each day! She had her first doctor appt. on Monday and everything looked great except for her weight. She was down to 6lb 15oz which the dr. said was a little smaller than she wanted her to be. So, we had to take her back in on Thursday to make sure she was gaining weight and not still losing. She was up to 7lb 7oz so we definitely know that she is gaining! She had just chugged a 2oz bottle right before the appt. so she might not really weigh quite that much, but it was still good news! And we can see that she is filling out a little. She is still so tiny and her legs are like little bird legs – skinny and wrinkly – but oh, so cute!!
It is funny how we still thought of Nathan as our baby and he still seemed little to us until we had Emily. When we brought her home, all of a sudden Nathan looks so big and so grown up!! He seems gigantic compared to her and so grown up! It is cute how gentle he is with her! He won’t even make contact with her when he kisses her because he is scared of hurting her, I guess. He gets really close and closes his eyes and makes a kissing sound but doesn’t actually kiss her! It’s pretty funny!
My mom and sister are leaving today so it is a sad day for us! It has been so wonderful to have them here and they have been so helpful! They have been so great with the boys – entertaining them and taking them out to do things. They have loved every minute! I hate the fact that our parents aren’t close enough to see our kids more often and to see little Emmy Jane grow and change. It is the hardest part about living away!! We hope that they come back soon and often!!!
I have been taking lots of photos of Emily – not wanting to miss out on the chance to take pictures while she is still in this tiny newborn stage. I know that it goes so quickly and I want to capture her just as she is right now – so fresh and new and tiny!! Here are a few… more to come.
This last one is evidence that Emmy Jane has been very graciously welcomed into the family. She was asleep in her swing and Nathan thought that she needed a few toys so he shared some of his with her! How sweet! I especially like the fact that he gave her the little basketball. Is there any question that they are going to want her to be just one of them – playing ball and doing the things they do?? I’m not sure she has a chance in this house full of boys!!

isn’t it funny how our kids seem so small to us … until we see them next to someone smaller. my daycare “baby” (not technically the baby really) was just that … our baby. then we got a newborn … and all of the sudden my “baby” seemed so huge. lol!

It took him a month to get back to his birth weight, but he is finally packing on some pounds and filling out. My daughter also lost weight at that age, but not nearly as much as my son. She’s 3 yrs old now and an average weight, so I try not to worry about it too much – but sometimes it’s hard!
