DIY Planner / Art Journal

Hello! We have such a fabulous project for you today from design team member, Stephanie Bryan!! She came out to the Be Crafty event that Amanda and I put on in Minnesota last month and now she is sharing with us the progress on her art journal / DIY planner that we made during the workshop. I am loving how she is mixing some of my previous collections like Confetti and Open Book with the new Shine products.

I guess you could say that my favorite colors remain pretty true and although we vary things up from line to line, like brightness, tones etc…. the collections still work quite well together and you can always find pieces to mix and match between them! It’s all part of my secret plan because I simply can’t let go of the older products when new ones come out. I still LOVE those from the past and I still keep them right close by when I am crafting so I can use the things that I love. It’s also always amazing to me to see how mixing in some of the new products with the prior collections freshens them up and brings everything back to life in an inspiring and motivating way!!

Hey everyone! Stephanie back with you today and I wanted to share a look at the mini album/planner/art journal I created at Maggie and Amanda’s Be Crafty event this past September!  This is the second Be Crafty workshop I’ve attended and I swear they just keep getting better and better!  Those two gals know how to throw a party!!

One of the projects we created during the event was a planner using an old hard-covered book, but I decided to alter mine a little and use it as a mini book/art journal.  I love having a place to “create” whenever the mood strikes, and sometimes a layout is just too big for the amount of time I have or the ideas I have in mind.  A mini album or art journal is the perfect place for recording those everyday moments, and since it’s on a smaller scale, it’s pretty easy to pick it up, work on it and then come back to it at a later date!

At the Be Crafty event, we used bits and pieces of Maggie’s Confetti collection, but as soon as I got back home, I couldn’t resist mixing in some of the new Shine products!  The two collections go SO well together and I love mixing and matching the different pieces.

There are lots of layers and pages in this book, including old book pages, envelopes and patterned papers.  I love using a variety of sizes for added depth and dimension!

For the accent pieces in the book, I added in a lot of the Shine chipboard pieces, frames, rosettes and embellishments.  The sentiments in the Shine collection are so perfect for everyday photos and those little moments and I love how the chipboard really pops from the pages!

The best thing about a ring-bound book is that you can continue to add pages as you go along!  And there’s nothing better than repurposing an older book and giving it new life!

Do you keep a random mini album or art journal?  Sometimes it’s fun to have an “anything goes” type of project where you can create whenever you have time!!
