I’m all about customizing my planners lately… yes I have multiple planners that I use for different things. One for work/blog/design team stuff, one for personal/family happenings, one for brainstorming and planning for my product line with Crate Paper and another one I use as a journal. I used to write things down on paper and post its and it just got to be too many different papers floating around and I could never find what I was looking for. Now that I have a planner (or a home base if you will) for each of these areas of my life, I am much more organized and I can find everything I need, when I need it!
This week I was playing with the Minc foiling machine and these butterfly die cuts and decided to add some of them to one of my planners. Below I’ll take you through the steps to create your own custom dashboard with foil butterflies.
One of the products in the Heidi Swapp Minc collection is a set of a bunch of butterflies that are all ready for you to add foil to. They are different sizes and shapes. My favorites are the intricate ones with all the cut outs! Having them all ready to go saved a lot of time because all I had to do was run them through the machine with different colors of foil. I decided to foil a bunch at the same time so I would have them ready to use for different projects – scrapbook pages, cards, etc.
Once they were all foiled, I played around with different combinations of layering them. I love how many different possibilities there are!
I was ready for a new dashboard in this planner so I grabbed a couple of the butterflies, layered them and then stitched them with my sewing machine. I created the dashboard with this paper from Confetti. Then I added some ephemera pieces and some lace ribbon. I don’t like to add too much bulk on these because then it can make my planners get too thick really quickly. But I like that the butterflies do stick up a little bit to add some dimension.
