Backlighting

Inspired by Brenda to try my hand at backlighting. She is so good at it and I just love the look that it creates.
I pulled up the blinds on our biggest window in our family room and had Matthew stand on a chair right in front of it with his back to the window. It is so cool because the window was actually really dirty and the light just blows out the background so that it looks white.
What do you think? Do you like this look? It is very contrasty with a different feel than I am used to. Maybe that is why I am not sure. Does his face seem too dark?
It is definitely something I want to keep working on and practicing.
Let me know what you think!!

My mom and sister left this morning. It is always so hard when they leave. I just can’t stand the goodbyes. That is the worst part. We had so much fun with them! We took the boys to an awesome pumpkin patch yesterday and I think I got some great shots. I haven’t loaded them yet but I will hopefully get to it in the next day or so and I will share some of them.

I am off to catch up on some scrapbooking assignments now. I have been really busy lately and it’s funny cause I love it! I love when I am busy with assignments. I think it is because for one: it usually means that I get to work with brand new products that haven’t even hit the stores yet and how can you not be excited about that. And two: it means that I am pushing myself creatively, thinking fresh and innovative, trying to create projects that will inspire and spark the creative juices in others. And in the process, I am growing and evolving, trying new ideas and techniques and having fun with it!! It’s just great! I really am grateful to be involved in the scrapbooking industry and for all the opportunities that I have had and continue to have!

…………….

Also, if you have emailed me in the last week or so, I am not ignoring you. I have just been busy with my mom and sister here so I haven’t been able to respond to everyone yet. I will get back to you, I promise!!

I really like this pic Maggie. I was actually just wondering how you managed to make his face NOT dark with the light behind him. LOL! So obviously, I don’t think it’s too dark. Was this on a sunny day? Looks like it….maybe that’s the difference. Maybe an overcast day would have made the face to shadow-y. Hmm….no idea. LOL! Whatever you did, it rocks. BTW…love the pic of your boys and your mom. That definitely IS really how things are. We always take posed pics and seriously….are they EVER posed like that? Nope….that pic is real and it’s awesome. So glad you had a good time with your mom and sis.

I don’t know anything about backlighting, but I would say you’ve nailed it. Great catchlights in his baby blues!
How fun for you to be able to work with such awesome products. I can’t wait to see what you create with them. 🙂
We went to the pumpkin patch 2 weeks ago & I have one pic that I love posted on my blog. I agree w/ you about it being so difficult to get 3 children to all sit nice for pictures. I’m convinced that’s just not realistic & I tend to like the “imperfect” ones better anyway because that’s more “them”.

I don’t think his face is too dark at all. But if you wanted to give it a try, maybe position him at an angle to the window instead of his back to it. Then he would have more light on his face & still get the backlighting. KWIM? But I think it turned out fab.
