A Pop of the Unexpected

Hello! Fall is in the air… at least for some of us. Here in Arizona, temps are still pretty high so we aren’t quite busting out the sweaters and boots yet, although I am definitely counting down the days until we can! Kim’s scrapbook layout today has me excited for fall and reminds me that even if our leaves aren’t changing and falling, I can still create that effect on a project using die cuts and watercolors! What I really love the most is her use of color here and how she contrasted the softer feel of the layout with that gorgeous violet purple.

I am also a big fan of using a bit of the unexpected on my own layouts and in my home decor. It helps keep things fresh and interesting! If you find that you tend to play things on the safe side, challenge yourself to give this a try! Grab a pillow in a bold fun color that you don’t have anywhere else in your home and try it on your couch. I bet you’ll love it! Or when you are crafting, gather your supplies as normal and then introduce something unexpected or out of your comfort zone and work it in like Kim does here. Be bold!! You can do it!

I wanted to create a scrapbook page using some pretty fall colors (sort of) on my layout. It’s always fun to throw in an odd color, a contrasting color from the other side of the color wheel.  I ended up painting my page in a pale pink color along with a blend of a darker pink.

After cleaning up my stash I found a few stencils I hadn’t used and created a little texture using modeling paste.  I love how it stands out over the pink color.

My leaves were cut from some of the Shine collection papers.  I hand cut a few leaves from plain white cardstock, added a few lines and painted them with watercolor inks in a pretty violet blue.  It was leftover from some other painting projects.

There are so many fun things in this collection, I can’t wait to play around with it more!

Love the layout! Where is the stencil from? I of course checked your product line immediately on scrapbook.com but it’s not there!
